Job Opportunity – Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)

Provide overview of lab operations while committing to the delivery of the highest quality holistic patient care, resulting in the best healthcare outcomes and extraordinary patient satisfaction in a highly collaborative team.

 

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Upholds the values and mission of the Tandem Hospital Partners family
  • Collect laboratory samples and perform lab testing in accordance with established laws, policies and procedures, as well as COLA and CLIA regulations
  • Coordinate and perform all preanalytic, analytic, and postanalytic laboratory activities in collaboration with the lab director and technical consultant
  • Assist with patient care and other activities as assigned by the Hospital Administrator/designee as indicated by the patient’s plan of care
  • Collect, report, and document clinical data. Take vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, pulse oximetry, and collect specimens
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times
  • Provide and maintain a clean, safe environment and perform and/or assist others to perform proper aseptic technique, isolation procedures, and infection control measures
  • Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge of the patient
  • Prepare patients and chaperone during examinations/procedures or assists with other patient treatments, such as superficial wound care, EKGs, starting IVs
  • Maintain lab and all patient care areas with appropriate supplies
  • Directs and coordinates activities in performing chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

  • Consults and acts as a resource to physicians.

  • Assigns workers to duties and oversees performance of tests in the fields of microbiology, chemistry, histology, hematology, immunohematology, and serology.

  • Purchases or directs purchase of laboratory equipment and supplies.

  • Reviews test results to ensure quality control.

  • Coordinates and conducts education and training programs for medical technology students and personnel.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Must be licensed by state to perform lab testing if applicable
  • Associates degree
  • Certification as a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent
  • Current BLS, required
  • Experience with IV start, phlebotomy, and initiation of EKG, preferred Certification as an EMT and/or ER experience, preferred
  • 3 -5 years of lab testing experience required

Will be split between Leawood, KS and Overland Park, KS hospitals
